 Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan University's main campus and is located midway between Chicago and Detroit, 140 miles from each, 2.5 hours driving time on I-94. Kalamazoo offers commercial transportation by major airline, train, and bus.

WMU has regional centers in Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Muskegon, and Benton Harbor/St. Joseph. The WMU College of Aviation is located at the W. K. Kellogg Airport in Battle Creek.
