Dancing with the Stars, at WMU
The fifth annual Dancing with the WMU/KAZOO Stars is all wrapped up and a new winner has been named. Stephanie Hinman, took first place with partner, Jesse Hoisington. Hinman is the Director of Sustainability for the Hinman Company in Portage, MI.
This year's competitors came from all over the community and were aged between 19 and 84. Local celebrities included:
Cheri Bell, Regional Development Director, Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan
George H. Brown, Associate Dean, WMU’s College of Fine Arts
Elisa Dely, Certified Personal Trainer and Pilates Reformer Program Director, West Hills Athletic Club
Sidney Ellis, Executive Director, Black Arts & Cultural Center
Stephanie Hinman, Director of Sustainability, Hinman Company
Polly Jenson, Wife of Dean Hal Jenson, WMU School of Medicine
Mark McPherson, General Manager, Tengam Engineering
Hal Ray, Professor Emeritus, Health, Physical Education & Recreation
Kalamazoo Mayor and 2008 winner, Bobby Hopewell served as a judge, along with Kathryn Williams (Musical Theatre Choreographer and WMU Faculty Member), and D. Terry Williams (Professor and Chair Emeritus of WMU's Department of Theatre).
All couples were coached and choreographed by Tony Calucci, who has served as a coach for the 'Dancing with the Stars' television show and was previously a faculty member in the WMU Department of Dance.
All proceeds benefited scholarships for dance majors at WMU.
