Ground was broken in mid October for the renovation and expansion of the building that will become the Western Michigan University School of Medicine.
It was announced during the ceremony that WMed has been granted preliminary accreditation by the Liaison Committee of Medical Education—the national accrediting body for educational programs leading to the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree.
The preliminary accreditation means the school can begin to recruit students who will become the first class, scheduled to begin August 2014.
