Western Michigan University is among 12 Universities selected by the FAA to help enhance safety in the nation's aviation sector. The Center for Excellence Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability (PEGASAS) was established to lay the groundwork for a partnership between academia, industry, and government that focuses on safety-related topics.
Both the College of Aviation and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences are involved in the consortium, which will work to identify solutions to existing and anticipated safety issues.
The FAA expects the center to perform various types of basic and applied research on general aviation topics through a variety of analyses, development, and prototyping activities.
