WMU's chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society, has received the prestigious Maintaining the Flame Award in recognition of the 2011-12 academic year.
The award comes on the heels of the 'Order of the Torch' award, given to five chapters per year. A chapter is only eligible to receive the award every four years—WMU received its most recent Order of the Torch for the 2010-11 academic year.
The Maintaining the Torch award celebrates outstanding chapters that have shown continued excellence in chapter programming, communications, and service. It is only given to chapters that are ineligible for the Order of the Torch, but have demonstrated themselves exceptionally well.
Ten other schools received the 'Maintaining' award this year.
Alpha Lambda Delta at WMU was established in 1962 for students looking to contribute to the local community through volunteering for service projects.
