Providing Unlimited Care

Greg Kirk (BS ’02, Physical Education) is the president of Fitness Therapy Unlimited (FTU) – a rehabilitation program that focuses on the whole body, not just the physical injury. FTU is based more on health and wellness and less on clinical settings.

After working at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in Spinal Cord Injury, Kirk decided he wanted to continue where physical therapy left off because he believes there shouldn’t be an end point in care. When FTU began in 2006, they were serving 2 customers – now they’re serving over 100 clients in 20 different cities from Detroit to Kalamazoo and up to Saginaw and Grand Rapids.

The most important part of FTU is mobility. “Being mobile allows us to help more people and that’s what it’s all about – helping individuals get better,” says Kirk. Some clients work with FTU as little as 3 months and others for the duration of their lifetime after their injury.

Kirk says he uses his degree from WMU everyday, “from training employees to teaching clients how to function better on a day-to-day basis. The skills I gained from teaching carry right over to FTU.”

FTU has its first out-of-state client in Florida and looks to begin growing in that region of the US and well as being available to support an expanding base of other Michigan clients.
