Join us for the first MyWMU Winter Carnival and Special Olympics annual Polar Plunge!
On February 16, Western Michigan University will host the 7th annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge. This year, however, we're proud to announce a Winter Carnival has been added to make it a snow day for the entire University and Kalamazoo communities. All are invited and admission is absolutely FREE! WMU will be hosting competitions, ice skating, live music, hot food and drinks — all built around the wonderfully popular Polar Plunge.
An ice rink will be built on the southeast corner of Goldsworth Valley Pond, where there will be skates to rent or you are welcome to bring your own. Next to the rink we'll have a heated tent for warming up between activities or just for lounging. A stage is being set up for live music, a 'Battle of the Bands' and a couple of comedians to change things up a bit.
The fun begins at 10:00 a.m. with an open skate, music, hot drinks and our opening rounds of snow softball and flag football tournaments. At 1:30, we'll take a break to put all the attention on the North side of Goldsworth Valley Pond for the Polar Plunge. After taking the plunge, we'll get things re-started with more skating, the Battle of the Bands, and the semi-finals of each tournament.
Our Duct-tape Derby will begin at 6:00 and run until we've found the fastest cardboard sled in West Michigan. The Carnival is one day only and will run up until 10:00 p.m. so you can skate beneath the stars!

The all-day outdoor event will also include:
- Live Music
- Sledding
- Chili, hot chocolate, and additional menu items
